Beginning Student Suggested Supply List:

Some materials for use in class will be provided; easel, drawing materials, fixative, etc.

If you would like to purchase your own:

  • 4B charcoal pencil
  • 6B charcoal pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Prepared gesso board 12x16

Bring to class two photo copies of what you would like to paint. Make sure one copy is black-and-white, and the other is color.

Once your drawing is complete you will need oil paint supplies. Here are some examples:

BRUSHES
  • #2 flat bristle
  • #4 flat bristle
  • #6 flat bristle
  • #10 flat bristle
  • #0 round bristle
  • #2 round bristle
  • 2 palette knives
OIL PAINTS
  • titanium white
  • ivory black
  • zinc yellow
  • burnt sienna
  • burnt umber
  • cadmium red light
  • cadmium orange
  • yellow ochre or cadmium yellow light
  • naples yellow
  • ultramarine blue
For portrait underpainting add these Oil Paints:
  • chromium oxide green
  • mars black
  • flake white
